The Eddings are an old family, not the eldest in the world but they date back to the 1850's They weren't a rich family either, barely scraping by but they learned how to survive, running cons even back then. It became a way of life for them and they trained the younger members of the family to do what they can in various questi8onable ways.
At first it was just cons, little things but then they realized that there were bigger things they could run. Some of them started branching out into things like bigger theft and forgery that went beyond your more commo9n stuff. They realized that they were good at this, that they could make real money here, and thus they continued to branch out.
People did things from simple cons on the street, to prostitution to forgery, to theft to any of the more 'victimless' crimes. Some rememberer of the family got greedy and still do. They don't keep people informed or try and share a little but mostly, those members aren't looked upon kindly and, when they need the family's protection, don't usually get it unless there's an individual tie helping them.
They had lots of fun in the prohibition era, claiming quite a few speakeasy's in New York (previously, they'd been mostly liv9ing in New Orleans) and that's what started really getting them set up there. It was a good time for the Eddings then and everyone lived it up.
Time passes though and things did slip. People weren't running as many cons and for a while there, the family was relatively normal. Things picked up in the sixties though and they started pulling their old tricks. A few of the family started getting into stealing cars and stripping them for parts, a job that proved to work out pretty well.
And things continued from there, life moving on as usual, the family growing as more Wanderers started pouring in. Taking them in wasn't really something they started doing until the eighties though, as they were very 'stick to your own kind' at that point. But Wanderers were an untapped resource and they realized that there was a lot of potential there.
SO the family grew and the businesses grew and everything was good.
Nowadays the family's pretty big, people hanging out across the entire US and more than a few members spending time in other countries, though their central locations are still New Orleans and New York. Some people came to Chicago for the Wanderers, Tegan in particular because she knew she could scout and make them IDs if they so wanted.
There are Wanderer safehouses across the US now, not in every state, of course, but in a few of them. A lot of the family members that aren't entirely comfortable with the crime aspect of things but still care for the family itself run the safehouses, trying to keep Wanderers from living on the streets. Of course these places are more like halfway houses but still, they're something.
The current generation do try and meet up every now and then, at least every couple of months to check in, have fun and have a family dinner. It gets hard with all the Wanderers that they've taken in but still, there's some kind of family get together ever two or three months and usually Tegan insists on water balloons if the weather permits.
Uhm....I'm trying to think of other things. I know there are. I don't know. Ask questions and I will be able to answer tham, rather than rambling about family history.
